twitter spam bots (twats)

Hey, peeps I started a twitter account about a year ago. It was just a try and see attitude I had and a year and over 200 followers later I'm still there. For a social site it works well and it seems the following it has, has grown immensely.

" in March 2010 there are 50 million Twitter accounts. However, most of its 50 million accounts merely follow other users rather than posting their own messages. 73% of Twitter accounts have tweeted fewer than 10 times according to a new report from Barracuda Networks, a Web security company. As of December 2009, only 21% of Twitter account holders were what Barracuda defines as "true users," meaning someone who has at least 10 followers, follows at least 10 people and has tweeted at least 10 times."

I love the contact short and sweet lol short and not so to the point from time to time. I have joined a social club there we have meetups every now and then usually just a BBQ, drinks and having a chat with friends. It's been great with a Christmas BBQ recently and more events coming this new year, #socadl is the crew.

As fantastic as it is, it seems that there is a marketing binge that is happening.
Spam bots as they are known and beginning to be unliked by more and more people.. The social aspect is drawing marketing people to the site and as I saw on boxing day 2010 there was a column I follow #worldofwarcraft from 10am onwards for at least 3 hours solid there was bot spamming and re-tweeting each other I got sick of it after that time and deleted the column. In the mainstream tweet of all people I follow there is a growing hatred towards bots spamming. quite often unsuitable unrelated things and bringing back bad memories for one tweeter a child lost and was reminded by a spambot.

There is one thing that we can do is block and report for spam. The marketers will one day peter off but this boom that they think is happening is doing nothing but annoying people and putting people off the social site. I think twitter as a whole is worth the time to spend only 140 characters on a little note. it's entertaining informative and a great way to meet new people. I've found so many little spots and places locally to visit share and help others with things they ask.

Don't get me wrong marketting has its place on twitter and I follow a few wineries and shops that tweet. they tweet regularly and not just spam a link and post it 50 time in a couple of minutes to annoy the crap out of people that its posted to. I think the business that i follow have my respect from the way they carry themselves and respond to real peoples tweets
some of the columns and tweeters I follow that you might like to follow
